Find Out Why a DeLonghi Portable Air Conditioner Can Go the Distance

Designed to provide ultimate comfort, a DeLonghi portable air conditioner is a great option for bring you a solution to hot summer days.

As the name implies, portable air conditioners are compact, lightweight, and mobile units that can be rolled to different rooms. These cost-effective air conditioning units control humidity and maintain a cool and fresh temperature throughout the day. You could install them in an office, in your living room, bedrooms or any other place a window or wall unit doesn’t make sense.

DeLonghi Pinguino, which is the portable air conditioning brand of DeLonghi’s true name is, is a reputable and trusted brand. The company offers air conditioners ranging from 6,500 BTUs to 14,000 BTUs, so you’ll have your choice when it comes to square foot capacity.

A great element of  DeLonghi portable air conditioning units is the dehumidifier mode. If you turn on the dehumidifier, the AC will control the moisture level in the air and provide you with fresh and cool air. Some models from DeLonghi are compatible with smartphones, as well.

All you have to do is download an app to operate the air conditioner. As we’ve come to rely on our smart-handheld devices within the last decade or so, DeLonghi keeps up that trend by allowing us world-wide control over our portable air conditioner. You can turn the AC on or adjust the cooling mode in one tap.

Another great feature you get from some of the DeLonghi air conditioner units is the heat mode. It is mainly useful for those who live in colder climates, and want to have a 12-month air solution for their space.

Switch your Delonghi to the heat mode and you’re good to go. The heat mode does not work effectively when the temperature outside is freezing, however. Since a DeLonghi portable ac is in all actuality a heat pump that is capturing heat outside and simply pulling it inside where it is released, and this form of heat doesn’t work well below freezing.

Because of this we would recommend you having an additional heat source if you intend on using a DeLonghi portable ac in heat mode.

One of the only issues we had overall with DeLonghi portable air conditioners is that these units are all single-hose ACs. As a consumer you do not have a double-hose option which is more effective with many features portable air conditioners provide you with.

If you happen to be someone who lives in an extremely hot area, a DeLonghi may not be an ideal option for you. Overall, however, DeLonghi is the solid choice when it comes to portable ac’s, so sit back and read about six of them below to decide if any of them are a smart choice for you.

Owners really like that DeLonghi window install kits allow them to be installed pretty much in any window dimension, even smaller windows which other install kits do not accommodate very well.

What owners aren’t so fond of is the hose connector as it seems cheaply made, and the wheels have a difficult time on high-pile rugs, so if you have a shag carpet, either roll it up or install this unit in another area!

FAQs

How to Recharge DeLonghi Portable Air Conditioner?

If your DeLonghi portable ac isn’t delivering you the same cool air you started receiving right out of the box, you may have to recharge the unit. Many factors can impact the functioning of your air conditioning unit.

It might be because of the coolant or leakage. Whatever the issue is, you need to refill the air conditioner with Freon to retain its efficiency. A portable AC needs regular maintenance to ensure it continues to deliver the proper air quality you desire.

You can purchase a Freon kit at your local hardware store or can order one online here. Read the instructions carefully, as Freon is dangerous if used improperly. The amount of Freon you need is in your owners manual. If you’ve lost your manual, you can check here to find your manual and get instructions.

How to Drain DeLonghi Portable Air Conditioner?

Most homeowners do not need to drain their portable air conditioner manually. If your  DeLonghi portable ac comes equipped with a condensation exhaust system, then you don’t have to drain the moisture. The unit gathers moisture from indoors and releases it outside the window through the moisture hose. If the unit does not feature an exhaust hose, then you can do it manually. If there is extremely high moisture in your room, then the hose alone may not work.

If the water is not drained, the internal reservoir of our AC will be filled with water. As a result, the unit will shut off automatically to prevent damages. If that happens, you will need to drain the internal tank manually. Grab a bucket or carry the portable AC near the sink. Place the drain plug and remove the plug along with the rubber stopper to remove water from the internal tank.

Some DeLonghi portable air conditioners come equipped with a bucket that has to be emptied once in a while. Depending on the amount of humidity in your room, you may need to empty the water bucket as often as every day. Make sure you turn the AC off before removing the water bucket.

Are all DeLonghi Portable AC Units Noisy?

The noise produced by a portable air conditioner can vary from unit to unit. Portable air conditioners feature a fan and a compressor and they produce sound at a decibel similar to a window ac unit.

You need to check the dB level of the AC to know the level of noise it generates, although, DeLonghi are not very forthcoming with their portable ac units sound level. Many portable AC units produce noise up to 58 dB’s.

Many of the DeLonghi portable ac units come equipped with Arctic Whisper technology that can control up to 50% of the noise which offers an enjoyable sound situation in your room.

The noise a portable AC generates also depends on the area you place the unit, the fan speed, and the integrated noise-reducing features.

What Size Rooms can the DeLonghi Portable Air Conditioner Cool?

The answer depends on the model you choose. Some DeLonghi portable air conditioners have the capacity to cool up to 450 square feet, while others can cool 700 sq feet rooms. It is best to measure the dimensions of your room in square feet before purchasing a portable AC.

DeLonghi portable air conditioners can cool living rooms, bedrooms, garage, offices, and even server rooms. Make sure you read the specifications of the unit before making a purchase. For medium-sized rooms, air conditioners with 11000 BTU to 14000 BTU are the best choice. For smaller rooms i.e. up to 300 square feet, an AC with a cooling capacity of 7,000 BTU to 10,000 BTU will suffice.

Does DeLonghi Portable AC Consume High Power?

Like most air conditioners, DeLonghi portable AC’s consume a significant amount of energy. However, DeLonghi portable air conditioners save power by cooling only a limited amount of space, which is why you’re purchasing a portable unit in the first place.

These portable ac units are a great option for homeowners with rooms that their central ac can’t hit all rooms in their house, or people with apartments that need multiple locations needed to be cooled.

There are ways you can save power and reduce your utility bills. DeLonghi air conditioners that feature an automatic mode can switch from cooling to fan-only mode automatically. Similarly, these smart air conditioners can be turned on/off through smartphones, which can assist when you remember you left your ac on when at work.

Overall, the total energy a portable AC consumes will vary depending on the unit you choose and the current environmental condition.

Final Thoughts on DeLonghi Portable Air Conditioners

DeLonghi Pinguino’s line of portable air conditioners are overall an excellent purchase option for you. While known of them come with a dual hose option, which we would highly recommend for most portable ac situations, if you believe a single hose is the way to go, DeLonghi units should be considered.

Overall the quality of these units meet the grade, and their Arctic Whisper feature, which can reduce the noise level by up to 50% is something to keep an eye (or maybe ear) on. Usually in the portable ac category users complain about how loud these units are. Very rarely will you see consistent complaints against DeLonghi portable ac units which is a good sign.

Another item to keep in mind when making a portable ac purchase is the square footage of your space. Too many people do not understand how important it is to purchase a unit that fits the space you need to cool (or heat), which is what leads to many of the negative comments in the user generated comment sections. If you pay attention to the small print and understand the space that you need to cool or heat, and pick a unit that fits your needs, you will most likely be happy with your purchase.
